PARLEY is a card-based negotiation roguelike where you talk down monsters instead of fighting them.

You are a rugged diplomat. Your kingdom sends you to face ancient powers, not with an army, but with rhetoric, flattery, threats, and the occasional bribe. Reduce their Will to zero before your Resolve breaks.

Every word costs something. Cards drain your Resolve, the same resource that keeps you alive. Spend too freely and you won't survive the retaliation.

Learn what makes them tick. Every creature has hidden weaknesses. Discover them. Exploit them. But be careful, use the same trick twice and they'll catch on.

Your mistakes compound. Health carries over between encounters. There's no free healing. Choose your rewards carefully - a powerful card, a useful item, or precious rest.

Features:

  • Deckbuilding with meaningful tradeoffs
  • Hidden trait system, discover and exploit weaknesses
  • Resolve is both your health AND your currency
  • Tense, short runs (~15 minutes)

This is an early beta. Art is placeholder. Balance is evolving. Feedback is welcome.

A little gameplay, a little critique ;)

(1 edit)

I really enjoyed how the dialogue from the enemies would reflect their traits and the gameplay loop was very fun! However, the boss run at the end seems a little bugged since it keeps randomly starting the other acts after defeating a boss and then exits the boss run if you complete the act. And the scaling of the game in browser isn't that great either even in full screen. For example, when I leveled up and unlocked the merchant class, I couldn't scroll down to hit continue because the class pushed the continue button off the edge of the screen even at full screen. But the concept and the little details with the dialogue really sold the game in my opinion!

Woah thanks for playing enough to even unlock the boss run! I'll address that bug and look into the scaling issues.

Love the dark fantasy style/presentation! Can't wait to see where this goes.

Thank you for trying it out! I desperately need to know if its fun enough to continue working on.
